The planet's weather really is changing. There is snow in Egypt, a little while ago there was a drought in England, then floods. There are super-storms in the Caribbean and now ice fields in Ashland, Oregon. ("This hasn't happened in the ten years I've been living here," people keep telling me.) Well,it's happening now.
What's causing it? Probably a lot of things: too few trees, too many people, too much pollution, too many cars, yada, yada, yada. Scientist say we humans are mainly responsible for the global weather change. I don't know about you, but I liked things the way they were. I'm not anxious to live in a water-world where the only land will be scattered tops of mountains sticking up from a continuous ocean. In fact if such a thing comes to pass, will we even be able to live on the mountain tops? Where will we get our drinking water? How will we grow food on such steep plots of land? Fish is all right every once in a while, but as a continuous diet? You see how a writer's mind works. I start off complaining about the ice that is still making travel miserable and dangerous in Ashland, and end up worrying about living on a mountain top surrounded by ocean with only a few miserable survivors for company. What if those survivors can't read, or can't read English? How am I to make a living? Arrrgh! Will Santa Claus be able to find me? Does magic trump global warming? Have a wonderful Christmas and every holiday you celebrate.
